Getting into Teaching
For our teaching vacancies, you don’t necessarily need to have a teaching qualification. The life and career experience you bring to the classroom is a huge asset, plus you can complete teacher training on the job, so you can start earning right away, whether you are:
- finishing school or college and want to continue your studies
- expecting to graduate soon
- considering a career change
- wanting to pass on your professional and/or academic knowledge and experience to the next generation of 16 – 19 year olds in the further education sector

Part-time or flexible contracts are available, so you can continue to work in the industry you love whilst sharing your skills in further education. We welcome ambitious, driven individuals who are passionate about education, improving skills and supporting our learners with their progression. Support for new lecturers includes:
- fully supportive Induction and mentorship pathway
- funded routes to cover tuition costs of the PGCE/Cert Ed (£9250) to achieve your teaching qualification for eligible roles whilst on the job
Pathways to teaching
There are various pathways for experienced professionals and recent graduates to get into teaching or working in education which includes roles outside of teaching such as Assessing, Technician, Workshop Instructors and Learning and Pastoral Support.
We offer both the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (inc. Diploma in Teaching)Â and the Certificate in Education (inc. Diploma in Teaching) part-time which is through a two-year programme, with teaching days taking place from Tuesday to Wednesday evening.
To train to teach in FE at the college you'll need:
- GCSEs (Level 2) at Grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths
- Level 3 or above in subject specialism for Cert.Ed. applicants
- Level 6 degree in subject specialism for PGCE applicants
