Assessment arrangements

The Media Department is friendly, supportive, ambitious, and hardworking. Achievement in this subject relies heavily on your attendance, punctuality, and commitment to learning, both independently and within lectures.

You will be encouraged to try a broad range of approaches, which you will then refine into ways of working which suit your individual interests, acquiring and developing specialist skills in your chosen discipline.

Your ongoing work will be assessed in lessons through focused 1:1 discussion and you will be given formative feedback of how you are progressing (e.g., fail, pass, merit, distinction.). Portfolio work will be assessed regularly for reflective, thoughtful, analytical critical evaluation and annotation. Discussions and presentations are a vital part of our assessment process and you will be expected to contribute to these during your lessons.

At the end of the course, you will receive either a Pass or Fail for the Media Award along with in-house accreditation for the additional modules.

Entry requirements

There are no strict formal entry requirements for this course, although we would expect you to have GCSEs in the 1-3 grade range. Informally we would expect enthusiasm, a willingness to get hands-on and an ability to work productively and collaboratively with others.

Practical requirements

Camera equipment is available to loan from the department, but many students opt to use their own; we recommend Canon models as they will then be compatible with the college inventory. We will provide most of the materials you will need such as photographic paper, SD cards and some printing credits but there may be some small costs involved in purchasing necessary items from our college shop. Bursary options are available to assist with this (subject to eligibility.)

Meet the staff, tour the campus and find out about life as a student at one of the best colleges in the country.
