Allanah’s Story

Allanah was nervous when starting her Level 3 Games Development and Design course, but those nerves quickly went away when she met the people at the College.

“My tutors were really lovely. We had tutor sessions all the time, so we never felt like we were abandoned on the course.”

Subjects studied: Level 3 Games Development and Design with the eSports Academy

Former school: Mounts Bay Academy, Penzance

What’s next: Study Games, Art and Design at university

My story:

Allanah enjoyed the range of topics covered on her course, and the eSports Academy was a definite highlight of her time at College. By studying a variety of different topics, Allanah discovered that she would like to specialise in concept art and is going to pursue this at university.

Allanah said: “I really liked the range of stuff we covered. We looked at things like coding, 3D modelling and art and design, which was my favourite part. We really got to see and learn about every aspect of the games development process.

“My tutors were really lovely. We had tutor sessions all the time, so we never felt like we were abandoned on the course. Everybody was really friendly and all of the support staff were great. One of the best parts was just going into the lessons because they were just so enjoyable.

“I did the eSports Academy for a while which is like competitive online gaming. It was on my half day, so it was really convenient for me and it was really fun to be able to play. There were three different games to choose from – I played Overwatch. It was really nice to play in teams, it felt really cooperative.

“My advice to a prospective student would be to not be nervous. I was really nervous and worried that I wouldn’t fit in, but everybody is really lovely and it’s such an enjoyable course.

“After College, I am going to go up to Norwich to study Games, Art and Design, and I’d like to go into concept art, which is the designs before they’re made into the game. This was something I discovered from doing this course at Penwith.

“In the future, I’d like to be able to work for a Triple-A company and be able to have a solid job with other people who enjoy doing concept art and really develop my skills as an artist.”
