Hometown: Bodmin
Whats next: Continuing teacher training with the Cornwall SCITT programme.
Amy worked as a teaching assistant for several years, gaining experience working in main stream settings with children requiring specific support and decided she wanted to take her career forward and get into teacher training. After completing the Childhood education Foundation Degree at the University Centre Truro & Penwith, Amy decided to do a top up year and complete the BA (Hons) Education and Training and continued working within a local school during her studying.
Amy studied at Truro College when she was younger and was really happy to return to a familiar environment to continue her studying as a mature student.
Amy said: “The team were really lovely and encouraging, having a familiar face was amazing and a great help with settling back in to the environment”
“I started when i was 24, it was great that there was a mix of age groups, being a mature student can be quite daunting, so speaking to a range of people really helped”
“I loved some of the modules we studied including Contemporary issues and alternative learning environments. We got to visit a forest school to demonstrate how the curriculum can be displayed in different environments. It was amazing to experience that and something I don’t think we would have experienced anywhere else”
“I have had a particularly hard year, so to achieve a first in my degree is incredible and that is thanks to the people here for all their support”
“I would say to anyone thinking of doing it, go for it, you will really enjoy it”
