Jean, a Health Care Support Worker at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, recently achieved her Level 2 Maths qualification through the Multiply project. Initially, she felt like maths was not adding up for her, but her experience with Multiply completely transformed her confidence and skills.
Before starting the Multiply course, Jean felt anxious and overwhelmed by the thought of maths. Having previously struggled with the subject, she believed that it was simply too difficult for her to grasp. Her past experiences had created a mental block, leaving her doubting her ability to succeed.
“I felt anxious every time maths was mentioned. I have always thought it was hard since I had failed before,” Jean recalled.
Jean discovered the Multiply project through the NHS website and was encouraged by positive reviews she saw on Facebook, where other learners praised the supportive tutors and effective teaching methods. Seeing how Multiply had helped others, Jean decided to sign up.
“Maths is a very important subject when developing careers, and I have seen other people on Facebook talking about Multiply as having the best tutors,” Jean explained. She recognised that improving her numeracy skills would be important for her career, especially in healthcare, where accuracy in tasks such as dosage calculations is essential.
Jean signed up for the ‘Move On with Multiply’ course, and although she was initially nervous, the supportive environment quickly put her at ease. The tutors helped her break down the subject into manageable steps, making maths feel less intimidating. By focusing on real-life applications and practical exercises, Multiply tutors helped Jean see maths in a way that finally clicked.
Jean’s experience with Multiply helped her overcome the fear that had been holding her back. “I thought since I had failed before, I would never pass, but after attending Multiply, it all changed,” Jean said.
By the end of the course, Jean felt like everything had finally added up for her. No longer was maths something to fear—it was a skill she now felt confident in. Passing her Level 2 Maths qualification gave her a great sense of achievement, and she was proud of how far she had come. For Jean, the journey through Multiply wasn’t just about learning numbers; it was about subtracting her fear and adding self-belief.
The skills and confidence Jean gained from Multiply have had a noticeable impact on her work as a Health Care Support Worker. She now feels more comfortable handling the numeracy required in her role, from managing medication dosages to interpreting patient data. The practical strategies she learned during the course have made her day-to-day tasks more manageable.
Reflecting on how she has multiplied her abilities and passed her Level 2 Maths qualification, Jean said, “They [Multiply] taught me many ways of working with maths. I feel very confident and very happy now.”
Thanks to Multiply, Jean has been able to approach her job with newfound accuracy and ease, and she is eager to encourage others who might be struggling with maths to give Multiply a go.
“I will recommend Multiply to everyone that needs functional skills maths,” she added enthusiastically. “Anyone feeling like maths is too hard can find the right solution with Multiply.”
Jean’s journey shows that, with the right support and determination, you can always find a way to square up to your fears and succeed. Thanks to Multiply, Jean has reshaped her relationship with maths, boosted her career prospects, and proven that sometimes all you need is a little help to make everything add up perfectly.
