Course Studied: Hard Hat Ready
My Story:
Jullius De Morais Peixoto Spurgeon, from Higher Brea in Cornwall, is currently working as an all-round labourer with site management training on private construction sites. Like many in the industry, Jullius recognised the importance of holding a CSCS card to progress his career, which led him to enrol in the Hard Hat Ready course at Truro and Penwith College.
Reflecting on his experience, Jullius shared: “I was impressed with the initial information and guidance provided by the College. The course was well-organised, and the support was excellent, with regular emails and phone calls keeping me informed every step of the way.”
Jullius admitted he was initially nervous about returning to education but found the transition much easier than anticipated. “With smaller class sizes and being surrounded by like-minded individuals, I found the learning environment a lot more comfortable and productive,” he said.
Thanks to the flexibility of the course, Jullius was able to balance his work and family commitments while attending the sessions. He also appreciated the support from his employer, who allowed him time off to complete the programme.
When asked how the course has impacted his work, Jullius explained: “It has definitely improved my health and safety awareness on-site. Completing the course enabled me to get my CSCS card, which will guide me towards further career progression.”
Jullius expressed his gratitude for the opportunities the course has provided: “Thank you for creating this course and allowing people like myself the chance to learn, apply for a free CSCS card, and receive free PPE and learning materials.”
Keep an eye out for future Hard Hat Ready courses and other opportunities to help you achieve your career goals in construction.
