Business Development Advisor James became part of the team at Truro & Penwith College in September 2017 after moving to Cornwall with his family. James works part-time at the College, where his role focuses on the Digital and IT industry. He spends the other half of his week within his local community, where he has helped to transform a double decker bus into a mobile community space.
Not only is James great with his hands, but his years of experience across several sectors has made him a great fit for the Truro and Penwith College Business team.
After starting his career working in the voluntary sector in areas of community development, he gained knowledge of marketing along with project, people and organisational management skills. Alongside continuing this role part-time with voluntary work, he took a role as Business Development Manager at a small electronic design consultancy business, which over a 7-year period, saw the company’s annual turnover and staff triple under James’ management.
The effect of this experience left James with a passion for technology and all things digital and he strongly believes that the need for digital skills and awareness across all industry sectors is increasing. His technical knowledge, industry experience and ability to understand training needs and their impact will allow him to drive this forward.
James is regarded by his colleagues as a good leader and organiser, and he has proven to apply himself with drive and energy in all that he does whether within the work environment or the many volunteering and support roles he has taken on.
In his spare time, James supports a range of charitable organisations from youth work to environmental projects, alongside being a keen musician, mountain biker and devoted family man.
On his role at the College and future ambitions, James shared: “I aspire to become a recognised consultant and trusted advisor in Cornwall and to develop and grow a community project that brings change and help to people’s lives.”
