My Story
Mimi, who studied at Penryn College, excelled in her chosen subjects History, Psychology, Geography and Spanish, achieving A, A, A*, A.
Her time at Truro College left a strong impression, and Mimi particularly commended her experience in Spanish and Geography: “Truro College was amazing. My Spanish class was very close knit, and I made loads of friends. The geography department is amazing, I was blown away by it, and I’m so happy with my grade.”
Taking four essay-based A levels was challenging, but she managed to find connections between them: “Four essay subjects is intense! But there were some links, such as with Geography and History.”
She chose Truro College both for its reputation and its location: “I had heard a lot of good stuff, but it was also in the catchment area, so it was natural to go there. I had heard amazing stuff specifically about geography and the department in general.”
Looking ahead, Mimi is planning an exciting gap year before applying to university: “I’m spending a bit of time with my brother in Uruguay and applying for International Relations and potentially Spanish in September. I’m thinking of applying to unis like Bath and Bristol now I’ve got the A* it helps a lot.”
Her advice to new students is practical but also highlights the importance of balance: “Stay on top of things from day one—keep up with flashcards, keep up with your notes, make sure you’re caught up every lesson. That’s a key one. But I’ve had a lot of good memories from free periods that I’ve spent with my friends. So, enjoy it, but also keep on top of it.”
