Courses studied at College (including Academies): BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Preparation for Public Services, Functional Skills English, GCSE Mathematics.
Vlad hopes to secure a career in the Public Services, and thanks to Truro and Penwith College, he has been able to access extra help with improving his English and Maths to reach his goal.
Originally from Ukraine, Vlad moved to Cornwall just before turning 16 years old and attended The Roseland Academy for a short time before finishing Year 11.
Vlad studies Functional Skills English and GCSE Maths alongside his Level 2 Certificate in Preparation for Public Services. He praises the support he has been able to access while studying at College, thanking the Learning Services Support and Transition team in particular.
Vlad said: “Because English is not my first language, I decided I should have some extra help with my English and now I have done my Functional Skills English with the help of Learning Services.”
When asked why he chose to study at Truro and Penwith College, Vlad explained: “I chose Truro College because fortunately I had an opportunity to do some trips with school and I was really impressed by Truro College.
The Lecturers are really fantastic, they’re really friendly, they can answer any question you have and it’s really nice.”
Alongside his studies Vlad also volunteers as a Student Ambassador, assisting with the Colleges’ Open Events, where he interacts with local families and potential students, giving advice and guidance on the College and its facilities.
Vlad enjoys assisting with Open Events as he explains: “You can explore the facilities of the College; you can ask questions to Student Ambassadors.”
Vlad enjoys the social aspect of College and agrees his course has allowed him to meet; “lots of friends”. He describes his favourite thing about College as; “Being a Student Ambassador.”
