Ben Hood completed his Customer Services Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) and is now working full-time in Fire Control at Cornwall Fire and Rescue, responding to emergency 999 calls and monitoring CCTV footage.
Ben developed a passion for public services while studying the subject at College, and after completing his qualifications decided to look for an Apprenticeship that would enable him to start his career in the sector.
The opportunity to join Cornwall Fire and Rescue stood out to Ben when looking for an Apprenticeship as he sees working in the Fire Service as a life-long career.
“My role with Cornwall Fire and Rescue is very varied. A week is never the same for me, it always depends on what comes in, and you never know when you’re going to have emergencies such as house fires and road traffic collisions,” Ben said.
“It is hard work, but getting home after work and getting a moment to take it all in is amazing, every day is a rewarding challenge!” Ben said.
Ben’s hard work and achievement was recognised when he was shortlisted for the Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards in 2016 and 2017.
“Whether you’ve just finished school, college or university and you’re not sure where to go next, I would recommend an Apprenticeship through the College. It’s a fantastic way to earn money and get a qualification along-side setting you up for a career.”
