Daniel Cannons - IT Apprentice of the Year

Daniel Cannons started his Apprenticeship at Tregothnan after completing a 2-year diploma in IT. Knowing that IT was the career path he wanted to take, Daniel applied to multiple Universities but decided the Apprenticeship route would give him hands-on experience and knowledge to take him forward.

As an IT Apprentice at Tregothnan, Daniel has been frontline IT support for staff, keeping constant watch over the 40+ computer systems they have and makes sure they are always updated and working so they can be used on a day to day basis. Daniel has been an important member of the team responsible for delivering Tregothnan’s new website and the integrations between the website and Tregothnan ERP systems – this itself takes a lot of time to understand and learn software to reach the standards of the business.

“The opportunities I’ve been given are extensive and varied. It’s brilliant to be part of the team that has produced and worked on the website. Seeing a final product come from nearly nothing and tackling lots of hurdles has been enjoyable and rewarding,” Daniel said.

Daniel won IT Apprentice of the Year at the 2017 Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards. Claire Scholes, Head of Apprenticeships at Tregothnan said:

“Daniel has applied himself to his Apprenticeship 100% from day one and wasted no time in having a positive effect on the business through his work and personality. The work Daniel has produced and undertaken is consistently excellent, and has made a real and meaningful difference to Tregothnan’s IT”.

Daniel said: “Having the support of the workforce behind mean was incredible and winning IT Apprentice of the Year wouldn’t have been possible without my mentor coaching me through.”

I wouldn't look back and would always choose an Apprenticeship as my preferred route.
