Diane Jones

Oltco Business and Administration Apprentice

Oltco Business and Administration Apprentice Diane Jones from Newquay has used her Apprenticeship to progress in the business. Diane’s potential soon allowed her to take a more responsible role as Assistant Office Manager as she focuses on accounts, answering calls, managing social media and dealing with sales.

Before her Apprenticeship, Diane had taken time out of work to look after her daughter as a full-time mum and knew she wanted to get back into work several years later.

Diane used the Apprenticeship route to gain a qualification and work in a field she enjoyed whilst getting support and says that one of the highlights of her Apprenticeship has been gaining self-worth again.

“After my Apprenticeship, I have been offered to continue my role of Assistant Office Manager and will hopefully work towards being Office Manager. I am also hoping to register The Noah Community Project as a charity and run this alongside working at Oltco,” Diane said.

Diane’s social enterprise project, the Noah Community Project, helps families in need across Cornwall and wider afield – the Grenfell Tower survivors being some of those that have benefitted from it.

Diane initially found it daunting to juggle family-life responsibilities, work, attending College and the Noah Community Project however soon managed to find an equal balance between them.

Diane’s efforts had awarded her with not only Business Apprentice of the Year, but Achiever of the Year at the 2017 Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards.

Her nominator John Pearce, Director at Oltco Ltd said: “Diane is an inspiration to all those who are wanting to return to work after a break whether that’s mums or those who have lost their confidence in their own ability as we know how much people like Diane have to offer. We are proud that she now considers this choice as one of the best she has made”

I couldn’t believe that I’d been nominated for two awards, let alone win them both. It goes to show that you can do an Apprenticeship at any stage of your life. Thanks to Truro and Penwith College and the fantastic team at Oltco, it has changed my life entirely for the better.
